US is the greatest country in the world according to whom?
I've never lived anywhere else in the world so I really can't compare but I do know that our country is only considered better because we have cash and "freedom" or at least thats what everyone thinks. Big buisness owns our country.. The value of the dollar isn't exactly what it used to be anymore. We spoil our poor.. So many people are sitting at home collecting money from taxes that I work hard to make. I'm not hating on people with actual disabilities but I know there are wayyy to many people abusing the system. Just look at the katrina accident how many people collected insurance money without needing it?? .. All I know is I'm only 20 years old and ever since i've been working since I went to college everytime I ask for help with something I get penalized because my parents make a lot of money. My parents don't lift a finger to help me.. why does that make a difference?

Good question.
America is referred to as a mixing pot. Multiple cultures came here and the best ideas from each are put into play. Alot of roadblocks that other countries have were removed. We are not socialist, for instance. Capitalism has been a central theme in our country encouraging people to seek the rewards that come with putting the most effort into the creation of the best ideas and best products. The pursuit of coming up with new products has incentified people to become more innovative and creative. I think that most of the other countries in the world lack innovation skills. While they can maybe duplicate or improve our manufacturing practices, they can't seem to grasp our ability to innovate. As evidence, I offer up our movie industry. We are looked at as the leaders in movies. Has anything even remotely impacting in motion pictures come out of other countries that has had the world wide success and made as big as an impact as Star Wars, Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, or even Wizard of Oz? Other countries look to us to deliver the goods in movies.
I think that some of the goals that have been laid out by our leaders have helped as well. Take for instance President Kennedy's challenge to take America to the moon in a relatively short period of time. In order to make that goal happen, the US pulled itself together and focussed. Born out of this challenge were thousands of necessary technological advances that ended up making an impact in the private sector and benefiting our economy as well as taking us to the moon. Also, the discipline of project management was born which is used across business and industry today.
For the most part, our ideals and our dreams for ourselves are at an elevated level too. These have driven our desire to achieve and better ourselves. We want our children to do better than we have in life.

That is very simple, because smart people with brain came to this country and make it so power full, people who had new ideas which were not acceptable in their countries.
If you look back to history you will see all the inventors and etc. are originally foreigners. Even now if you pock to the back ground of leaders in every subject, they have a back ground of either from Middle East, Europe and Asia.
( oh just please put Mr Bush inside practices)

By being founded by the cream of the crop of the then existing Europeans, and then by fighting only one decisive civil war. These conditions created HUGE opportunity in a land filled with nearly incomperable natural resources.
Of course it warrants bearing in mind that other countries/empires have been the dominant civilisation in the world for MUCH longer than America has. America's time for demise will come, just as all other empires have.

Prior to us it was Great Britain, which isn't so great anymore. We certainly do seem to be on the downward slide though, anyone want to hazard a guess as to who the next winner will be on greatest nation in the world? how about China?

I wouldn't agree but here we go:
America had vast amounts of natural resources which means products to sell and make, as well as this WW1 debts were owed and America got alot of profit, sround this time genius Herny Ford created mass production, and standardization this meant products were cheaper and more profit, this meant workers got paid more and had more money to spend on products. It is called the circle of prosperity. Also US restricted immigrants which meant less money to spend. Ordinary people made their fortunes on the stocks market by buying shares on the margin which meant that you paid 10 percent and it was guaranteed yours. Finally tarrifs on other countries products meant that US products were cheaper which supported the economy. The circle of prosperity!

Because you stole Native Indians lands, you killed them, you won dirty money using african slaves free work...
And you gave money and home to European scientists and ingineers ( the Germans, as Von Braun and Openheimmer, escaping Nazi regime ; the Jews escaping Shoa, as Einstein and Spielberg ; the Armenians escaping the Genocide ; etc, etc...)
You took the best of Europe, you stole and killed the Indians and the Africans.
THERE'S NOTHING TO BE PROUD.
