I was watching some old Bob Probert fights on youtube the other day. As much as I like the fancy skating and goal scoring, there's just nothing like a good ol' NHL fight! They're few and far between now and when they do fight, it's just more of a shoving match than anything. Am I crazy or does anyone else feel the same?

I can tell some of you might be young if you think there's a lot of fighting now. You probably don't remember the really good fights from 15 or more years ago. There were probably even better ones before that when they didn't even wear helmets, but I'm much too young to remember those!!:-)

Fighting is part of hockey, players rarely get injured due to a fight. Would you rather see two guys who want to fight each other just fight, or do you want to see them taking dirty shots at one another, like a slash to the back of the knee. So to answer the question YES is miss the fights.

Yes and No. After watching the fight between the Leafs Newbury and the Pens Petrovicky, I am just glad that a serious injury didn't occur. A lot of the players are getting injuries from the fights that directly hurt the team. The game has changed to a fast, skilled players game and the teams that can't keep up resort to fighting. That part I don't like. Again, as in the case of the Pens Leafs game on Sat. there was no way the Leafs could keep up with the young Pens so they started by picking on Colby Armstrong in full view of the official. Both were given roughing penalties. If this would have happened on the street, Gil would have been arrested. Armstrong only tried to get away. That is another reason the Leafs are so bad this year. They haven't made the necessary changes to keep up with the game.

hockey has always been apart of fighting... or should that be the other way around?
All sports go through the rough-and-tumble phases and the glamorous phases... just look at 60's & 70's NFL, it was all about wrestling moves, then it became a pretty game. Now it's starting to go back to hard hitting goons.
NHL will eventually go back to the way the game was supposed to be played, the sooner Bettman is out, the more drastic the changes.

I agree 100%
I am a firm believer that the increase in cheapshots is directly influenced by the decrease in fighting. You can't stand up for a guy on your team because you'll get the instigator penalty and possibly more (especially when you have a loose cracker like Colin Campbell running the displinary show).

Stop watching the Eastern Conference and come out West where we still know a thing or two about fighting. Most Western teams have an enforcer or two on them, and let's not forgot my favorite team's (Flames) top player, Iggy, will drop the gloves and pound someone.

I dont like seeing goon fighting. The whole dog and pony show for guys who cant play hockey, but can fight, is old. But I have no problem with 2 guys going at it all night long, dropping the gloves. Settles the score and is a good release of aggression instead of slashing and stick work. I wish the refs would let those go instead of breaking it up, sometimes it needs to happen.

I think what we have right now is fine....as exciting as the fights are I just want to see some hockey....the fights aren't exciting as they use to. Plus it was kinda scary about what happened to the player in Toronto and Pitts. game. the dude got knocked out.

I don't miss being in them. However I do miss seeing them on television.
They are an integrated part of the pro game. Too bad they initiated the instigator rule. If they dissolve the rule as rumored they will be back.
