I'm otherwise employed, but I wrote a movie screenplay in my spare time. I was just messing around but it actually turned out pretty decent ... any idea where you take ideas like that?

Not really, but I would suggest that you register it with the Screen Writers Guild. You can register a single script for about $30 bucks to protect others from stealing it.

Many companies don't accept unsolicited manuscripts, but I would register it before sending it off.

You need to get it into the hands of an agent that will shop it around.

One of your best bets is to make a short file version (pick the best 10-15 pages and make a short film script out of it) and get yourself some local talent and shoot it. You can then use the short film to shop around your feature length script.

Also, if you are sending it out to people make sure you date and sign the copies so no one can steal your ideas.

best of luck

You need an agent to help you shop the script. You also want to have it copyrighted so now one can duplicate you movie idea. Good Luck.
