Since u don't know how to remove a virus, the best thing is to opt for the easiest solution (I have advised many users now they can DIY).

1. BACK UP any files that u want to keep and email addr books. Note down the Internet connection settings etc.

2. Do a "System Recovery" (NOT the XP Restore). Most new computers nowadays can "self-heal". It basically reverts the PC to its original state when u first bought it. e.g. the Acer laptop lets u press F2 while booting up, it just starts the recovery by itself. YES, as simple as that and the viruses will be ALL gone. Read the manual that came with ur computer, look for "How to do a System Recovery". It's extremely easy. (unless u have a very old computer then u might not have that option. u might still have RecoveryCDs etc). Failing that just take it to PC World Clinic, they will sort that out for u for a fee.

3. Once u've got all this sorted, BEFORE u go online turn off the Windows default firewall then install a good firewall n run at start up.

4. Beware of any so called anti-spy anti-virus software as they slow down ur system n sometimes cause problems. they need to b regularly updated. I strongly advise a good FIREWALL (like a bodyguard) n learn how to use it well by saying NO to attackers.

5. Go to the Microsoft Security site at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/guidance/serversecurity/administratoraccounts/aapgch02.mspx
to find out why users make their computers vulnerable by going online as Administrator status and how to avoid being attacked again.

Create a bootable floopy (for better a bootable CD) from ANOTHER (VERY IMPORTANT) computer and copy an Anti-Virus software (get a free scan, search the 'Net for freeware). Write protect the floppy. Then boot and scan your computer. If that doesn't work, you'll have to (and this is probably better), reformat the drive and start over, being sure to install Anti-Virus software.

The reason why you must boot from a floppy and not simply install to a hard drive is many viruses now have anti-detection techonlogy embedded in them and if so, your Anti-Virus software will not find them.

Hi you should have Norton Installed on your PC. I dont know weather this will get rid of all the viruses you have at the moment but i suppose it will stop you getting anymore viruses, as as soon as you get the virus Norton sorts it out for you.
My be pop into your local pc store they may recommend installing something first before norton to get rid of the viruses.

Short term:
Wipe your hard drive.
Disconnect from ISP.
Re-install OS.

If you want a secure computer to use online- get a Mac. I've been online since 2000 and I've NEVER had any virus trouble because I've never owned a Windows pc.

Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from CA.

http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

Now since you may confuse spyware with a virus I would run the 2 scans below and then add spyware blaster.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html

SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
