Some people say "I am going to take the S.A.T." others say "I am going to take the S.A.T.'s". Why do some people pluralize this and others do not. I have also hear this when people discuss the MCAT as well.

I say SAT's. I pluralize the SAT. That's because there is the SAT I test as well as some SAT II tests. I just say MCAT, as in singular because it's just one big test.

SAT & MCAT . People pluralize these because they do not really know the English language. In most cases it can be attributed to vernacular. i.e. yous guys, warsh, ya'll.
