This girl is asking me what to do since her Chevy Cavalier convertible is frozen shut from the prior nights ran and this mornings freezing temp. Since there is no frame above the window this makes the traditional method of pounding on the outside of the door dangerous. Any ideas?

I own a shop, and have been around a while, but DUDE!!! Don't put any "hot or warm" water on it, it will shatter the window like no body's business. Its OK to use just plain water to do the job, but make sure its not hot, or any more than just luke warm, or you will wish you hadn't done it. Get a hold of the handle, apply pressure while pouring the water over the top of the window. It will let go pretty easily. Use a dry towel to clean up the excess, and you are good to go.
Glad to help you out, Good luck!!!

Pour a 5 gallon plastic pail of hot water at the top if the glass and around the doors. When it's open dry everything off with a towel. Now comes the trick that prevents this from ever happening again. At NAPA, Car-quest, or any big auto parts store pick up a tube of silicone ignition grease. Smear every inch of the rubber trim around the door with this special grease. Be sure to spread around the top foam trim where the glass touches also. It will not degrade the rubber / foam insulator padding what so ever. It has no smell either. THIS WORKS! At the very least use 100% pure silicone spray. This will work for a few weeks but not as well as the grease. From now on, leave both side windows cracked slightly while it's not being driven. This helps the interior to release any moisture built up in the interior while doing short hops around town.

Simply keep pouring warm water over it until it unfreezes.

Unless it is cold enough to make it turn into ice - then you are pretty much screwed.

They make some stuff for melting ice - but if you can't get to the store, then that is kind of pointless.
