Johnny Wisemuller - looked the part, did his own stunts, poor speech (as part of his character - "Where you go? Guns bad" - not like some 'Tarzans' who speak perfectly, even though the character has been in the jungle since birth), bare feet - I have seen some Tarzan's who wore shoes!!!! Good stories.
Overall FANTASTIC !!!!
He also had the sexiest "Jane" ever !
PS - Isn't it amazing that most of the above have also chosen Wisemuller too, even though thare have been many others and his films were made so long ago !!!!

Johnny Weissmuller as he looked and acted the part as if he was Tarzan, perhaps too much as i was told he ended up in a loony bin thinking he was indeed tarzan, also had the sexiest Jane with the skimpiest costumes

It has to be the most famous and longest lasting.He was very popular with the movie public.He was tall dark and handsome.He was 5 times Olympic gold medallist in swimming.He broke 3 records at the 1924 Paris Olympics.He was the fastest swimmer of all the other Tarzans.He was the one and only Johnny Weissmuller. His Jane was very fit too!

movies - Johhnny Weismuller....proving there is life after the Olymics...not to mention the famous yell
tv - Ron Ely - back in the 60's he had a reputation for injuries from performing his own stunts on the tv show

I say the animated; call me crazy, but I could just feel more emotion emanating from the animated rather that the real live action movie.
