i think ahk missed the point. its all well and good going on about how evil the british empire was, but the operative word there is WAS. we now live in a world where acceptance and tolerance is advocated. its a different world than what it was even just a century ago. i dont understand why if ppl are so adamant on moving here if all they want is to turn it into the country they left? it cant possibly be the weather! as a predominantley christian nation the only option left is to live and let live. no one is stopping different faiths from being worshipped so why stop our traditions? anyone objecting to christmas and objecting to ppl celebrating it surely has to be a minority. and since we are a democracy isnt that majority rule? you cant please everyone i'm afraid but if you move to a country to LIVE and not just holiday. then you conform to their societys norms and values. so leave christmas and everything else which has a potential to offend a minority alone i say. besides, anyone can be offended by anything! its all gone mad!

I'm with you all the way on this one. Iwork for a company with a high proportion on Muslims. While there are some v nice people amongst them, I would class the majority as lazy (most of them have a bad back and can't/won't bend or lift) and they can be extremely rude (while they speak exceptional English, they insist on speaking in a foreign language - this is REALLY bad mannered). The winter lights and crucifix argument is just another nail in the Christian coffin.

Heck yes, just as they should here but the world can thank all the liberals political correctness for that.
I don't even like Xmas because it's crossing out Christ's name. Only when the terrorists and foreigners have completely infiltrated our Countries and changed our way of lives, will then the dems realize the destruction they have caused throughout the world.

Well I suppose I will just jump in and provide a counter argument. I agree with you to a certain extent. Coming to Britain is now a piece of cake for a lot of them coming in - they have this wonderful ability to pass through France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the rest of the EU straight here although they would have been able to make a good living for themselves in another EU country. I agree, we're too soft on immigration but at the same time, its not like everyone passing through our borders is going to have bombs in their backpacks or wants us to convert to Islam or any other faith that they bring with them. I think the current situation is a flawing on both parts. As "Brits" we've closed up a little and we're not accepting them into our communities because we're afraid we'll lose our identities. At the same time though, the steady progression of ghettoisation in places like North London, Leicester, Birmingham, Leeds etc is self inflicted by the immigrants. We're making no effort to welcome these people, and the same time they're making no effort to adapt to our culture. Its give and take on all sides. Perhaps if we tried a little common sense and all round British politeness then we wouldnt feel the need as a country to be afraid of these people. Plus I think its also important to get the message across to those coming in that they are coming to a predominantely Christian country and we will want to celebrate that in our own way. Noone flatters an eyelid if someone wants to pray six times a day, thats their right to - but we have to have our own celebrations as well.
Quite possibly I've juxtaposed myself but what i'm trying to say is that instead of saying "oh its their fault you're coming here" we have to accept the fact that migration into Britain is a fact, and you cant change it - just embrace it and see it for its positive points. Give and take people, give and take.

You're damn right there! It's gone too far and nobody in power has the guts to stand up and do something about it. People have to realise that we're a Christian nation. I predict a civil war in this country within the next 50 yrs!! Praise be that I won't be here to see the inevitible bloodbath!!

If a foreigner wishes to live here (UK) then YES...they should respect the laws of the country they wish to live.
Instead certain people moan and fight so much until people liston.
Why are these people wanting to change their 'new' country into the country that they have fled from? Do these people intend to flee the UK once they have ruined what was once a tolerant, nice place to live?

Only unpatriotic lefties and foreigners would disagree with you. Of course, that is a lot of people. Let me think, we have the TV media, the Government, most of the teaching profession, and, of course, many others.
'chi guy' and 'nonenzedder' are the enemy within, and remind us all why we have to be careful who we accept.

I beleive that there has to be a little bit of give and take - but it seems to be all give, give, give on behalf of the indigenous population.
I personally don't give a hoot if the local council want to call them Winter Lights - but I do get narked when they then put up lights for Diwali (apologies if I've got the name wrong).

I have to agree with you as the traditions of this country are being slowly eroded by ridiculous PC ideas ...........other cultures can enrich a country but we shouldn't loose our own to accommodate them. Why is it automatically presumed that you are being racist because you want a British way of life ...this is Britain after all isn't it?

you know sometimes one has to sound cruel or even racest
to be kind. the kindest and most positive thought one can have is that they should adaapt to their own country, biuld it up, make it happier, make it more prosperous and help their own nation stand tall in the world instead of dumping it for better wages in a foreign land.
