A DVD burner burns information onto a DVD storage format. The DVD storage format holds more info than a CD. You Can rent movies and copy them. It's illegal and hard to do because you need special software.

Yes you can! I *cough* never *cough* do this though because it's illegal. All you need are 2 pieces of free software: DVDFab Decrypter (to remove the scrambling and copy protection) and DVD Shrink (to squash a commercial DVD onto a single DVDR). I would also recommend DVD Decrypter as well; even though it is old, it still works and I use it to burn the ISO files that DVD Shrink makes (ISO files are DVDs put into a file, ready to be burned directly to disc with no formatting or transcoding required). As I mentioned before, it's illegal but put it this way, it's just an indirect form of taping a film off TV, which no doubt you've done before!

DVD TO MOBILE DEVICE
My friend needed something to convert his media to his mobile device, I told him about this and he loves it.

CloneDVD mobile converts your DVD movies quickly and easily into a format that your portable device (Sony PSP, Apple iPod Video, iAudio X5, Creative Labs ZEN Vision, etc) can play. You can also convert your DVDs to other file formats, such as DivX, XviD, AVI, MP4, etc.

Watch your movies on the go
With CloneDVD mobile you can put your favourite movies or TV series on your mobile video equipment and watch them wherever and whenever you want. Let the kids watch their favourite cartoons in the car.

Incorporating the user-friendly interface of Elby's CloneDVD and the well-engineered open source project MEncoder as the conversion engine makes CloneDVD mobile a fast, easy-to-use and quality product that is very reasonably priced.

Copying a DVD to your mobile video machine is achieved in a few mouse clicks and without the need to rip it to your hard-disk. Note that copying protected DVDs also requires AnyDVD.
