Has anyone out there seen James McMurtry play live?

Yeah, just a couple of months ago at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, TX. It's a good show, but you have to pay pretty close attention to catch the lyrics ... he plays loud, but his voice is a little monotone and doesn't always cut through the mix.

He knows what he's doing with that guitar, though. I was really impressed.
