I really recommend this book by Marc Weissbluth Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. It really explains everything about baby's sleep habits. I used it as a guideline, my baby started sleeping through the night at 2 months. Also, the better baby sleeps during the day, the better he/she will sleep at night. And babies usually get tired within 1-1.5 hours after they wake up. Even though they may look wide awake you want to start putting them to sleep.

People are normally categorised into 2 categories : OWL and LARK. Owls work best at night and Larks work best early morning. May be your baby is an OWL, destined to do night shifts in future !
Jokes apart, new born babies take time to acclimatise with light. They were so used to and comfortable in the darkness of the mother's womb and therefore, light or brightness, is very disturbing to them. It will take time for them to get used to daylight. For some it happens quickly, some babies take time. There is absolutely nothing to worry about. It happened to you and me also - ask your parents and they will tell you how naughty you were and did not allow them to sleeo at night ! Let your sweet baby take its own time. Do
not force him to do anything - like pushing him to sleep during the day. Let the baby's biological system adjust to the outside world. Things will be fine .

Best wishes,

My baby was fussy too, and it was because of the formula. Also, make sure the baby get some naps during the day, but doesn't sleep all day. The baby might have days and nights mixed up. Make sure the baby sees plenty of light (preferably sunlight) during the day.

There can be lot of causes,
1. May be your baby has gas trouble. Due to gas trouble baby has stomach pain. You have to give him/her daily exercises to release gas. Use gas release drops. It is easy available in all pharmacy.
2. May be your baby is not able to suck your breast milk. And he/she is hungry after each 1 hour or 2 hours. Feed milk to him/her with bottle. My wife start cerelac after 3 months to my baby.
3. May be he/she pass urine and potty. So you have to make habit by yourself to check his/her diaper. For easy use Pamper or Huggie in night so your baby will not feel wet and cold due to urine on bed or cloth.
