The problem is that many of the users are uninformed youngsters that get all of their political news from MTV, Oprah, MySpace or some liberal university professor.

Many don't know about or care to understand patriotism, traditional American values or what the founding fathers penned into the constitution.

Its also the entitlement mentality that many younger people have today. They don't know what it is to work for something. They are used to instant gratification and that's how they live their life. They want the government to be their mommy and daddy from womb to tomb.

Lastly, there are loads of people here that live in socialist countrys. It is in vogue for them to bash the USA in any way they can. Most of them, again, way to young to know the suffering of their great grand parents at the hands of the Nazi's. If they could only know that if it wasn't for the USA.. they would all be speaking German right now.

Just a few thoughts from a person who loves this land.

"Is Y/A a forum designed to ridicule Patriots who love America, moral values, & believe we'll defeat evil?"

Most of the people on here who keep insisting that they're "patriots" don't know the meaning of the word. They think it has to do with some dogmatic, frozen in time take on America, American life and the American people. The think a patriot is someone who slurps up propaganda like it's Coca Cola.

"Loving America" is about wanting equality, dignity and respect for all Americans. It's about an entire society... not just bits and pieces of it.

And I assume that by "moral values" you're talking about some hybrid between conservative fundamentalism and right-wing politics. That's not a moral view that everyone shares, and speaking as a Christian... I don't even see that view as being representitive of the traditional Judeo-Christian ethic. What it is, is a composition of unthinking nationalism, greed, fear and flawed theology.

And you don't defeat evil with corrupt wars, corporate greed, intolerance and hatred. That doesn't overwhelm evil. It gives birth to it.

there is nothing patriotic about a leader that invades a country based upon bogus reasons, strips US citizens of civil rights and terrorizes the American people by setting the stage with constant fear. As for moral values, mine come from the bible and there is a clear directive, thou shalt not kill. Defeating Evil? Evil cannot destroy evil no more than a demon can cast out a demon. Darkness on top of darkness does not yield light.

No, Y/A is a forum to give voice to fact based opinions.
It allows a person of any status to ask a question, and recieve answers from any myriad of other people.
If you are a patriot, then you should already know that you allready align yourself with people who were considered "whacked" by their fellow peers and/or governmental agencies.
My hats off to you!

Not at all. It's a forum for people to express their opinions.

Feel free. I have a feeling I disagree with your point of view, but go ahead and express it loudly and proudly anyway. That's your right.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH DOG LOVER.

YA is filled with youngsters who IM, watch MTV, and are always on facebook and myspace. They don't know anything about American values and the dangers we face globally.

Think about it! If YA was full of responsible adults, the thumbs-up/down system will not be abused as it is now!

No. If you feel that way, it's just because there are fewer people here that agree with your positions than those who don't. That would be called a democracy.

EDIT
I'm just so proud and feeling very patriotic to be getting thumbs-down from this crowd. Now I know I'm on the right track. You knee-jerk rednecks need to do a little studying up on American history.

I'm not sure yet. Yesterday I posted something about gay sex and Yahoo! Answers deactivated my account. It wasn't derogatory or inappropriate, so it must be because they are homophobic.

I'd say the only thing Y/A shows is that the majority asking and answering here are children and trolls looking for attention.

Yeah because free speech is unpatriotic, immoral and supportive of evil.
