Solve x: 1/5x + 3 = - 4/5x - 3

First: eliminate fractions - multiply the denominator with each term....

(5x)(1/5x)+(5x)(3)=(5x)(- 4/5x)-(5x)(3)

*Cross cancel "like" terms & combine the remaining terms....

1 + (5x)(3) = - 4 - (5x)(3)

1 + 15x = - 4 - 15x

Sec: combine "like" terms -- subtract 1 from both sides (when you move a term to the opposite side, always use the opposite sign)....

1 - 1 + 15x = - 4 - 15x - 1

15x = - 4 - 1 - 15x

15x = - 5 - 15x

*Add "15x" with both sides....

15x + 15x = - 5 - 15x + 15x

15x + 15x = - 5

30x = - 5

Third: isolate "x" on one side --- divide both sides by 30....

30x/30 = - 5/30

x = -5/30

*Simplify the fraction into lowest terms....

x = -1/6

Apparently this is not a little problem.
Here is another method using transposition:
(Remember: when you transpose a term to either left or right side of the equation you must change the sign.)
There is an ambiguity in the way you write the coefficients hence I am using two interpretations:
Case One:
(1/5)(x) + 3 = (-4/5)(x) - 3
Step One:
Transpose (-4/5)(x) to the left side of the equation:
(1/5)(x) + (4/5)(x) + 3 = -3
Step Two:
Transpose +3 to the right side of the equation:
(1/5)(x) + (4/5)(x) = -3 - 3
Step Three:
Combine similar terms:
(5/5)(x) = -6
x = -6 (First answer)
Case Two:
(1)/(5x) + 3 = (-4)/(5x) - 3
Follow the steps above:
(1)/(5x) + (4)/(5x) + 3 = -3
(1)/(5x) + (4)/(5x) = -3 -3
(1)/(5x) + (4)/(5x) = -6
(5)/(5x) = -6
Multiply both sides of the equation by by 5x
[(5)/(5x)][5x] = [-6][5x]
5(1) = -30x
Transpose -30x to the left side of the equation:
30x +5 = 0
Transpose +5 to the right side of the equation:
30x = -5
Divide both sides of the equation by 30:
x = -5/30
Reduce to lowest term:
x = -1/6 (Second answer)
You can see now that this is not a little math problem because there are two solutions.
Moral: Use parenthesis, brackets, etc. to signify the operation. You will discern the importance of these characters when you begin to write formulas in any programming language.
Remember me when you start writing codes.
Good luck.

Take the terms with x's to the left and the constants to the right:

1/5x + 4/5x = -6
→ 5/5x = -6
→ 1/x = -6
etc.

I'm not sure if that is (1/5)x or 1/(5x). I'm going to assume it's 1/(5x) because the poster above me did (1/5)x.

1/(5x) + 3 = -4/(5x) - 3
1/(5x) + 3 + 4/(5x) = -3
1/(5x) + 4/(5x) = -3 - 3
5/(5x) = -6
1/x = -6
1 = -6x
-1/6 = x

First multiply both sides of the equation with 5x, yield

1+15x=-4-15x. Then add 15x to both sides

1+15x+15x=-4-15x+15x

1+30x=-4 Subtract 1 from both sides

30x=-5

x= -5/30= -1/6.

multiply with 5
u will get x+15 = -4x - 15
add 15 both sides
get
x+30=-4x
subtract x from each side
get 30=-5x
divide by 5
x=-6 is the answer

what do you mean? how to find x?
first combine all terms. so 1/5x+4/5x=5/5x or 1x
then -3-3=-6. (just use APE)
in short x=-6

try to check

1/5(-6)+3= - 4/5(-6)
-6/5 +3=24/5-3
6=6

x= - 6

(1/5)x + 3 = (-4/5)x - 3

subtract 3 from both sides

(1/5)x = (-4/5)x - 6

addd (4/5)x to both sides

x = -6

Multiply by 5 if you want.

x + 15 = -4x - 15

5x = -30

x = -6
