Hi

I'm a South African that's lived in the UK and am now one of the thousands making their way back to SA! So looking forward to it! Just one issue, and that is that we don't yet know where to settle, and cannot make up our minds. All the work seems to be in Joburg, but can one really live there? Is it not just another big city? Anyone know agencies in Pretoria maybe? And how's Durban and traffic? ok? And Richards Bay, is this an option?

It depends to a very large degree on what profession you are in. All multi-national companies with the exception of Unilever has their Head Offices in Johannesburg.

Durban is great, I live here. Traffic can be a problem depending where you live and work. (e.g. Queensborough to center town is HELL)

Richards Bay is very industrialised. Many large industries. Lots of unemployed who thinks they will get work there. Very Afrikaans and VERY VERY hot.

Hartbeespoort (North-West) is one of the places I found nice!! Its 30 min from Pretoria and an hour from Joburg! And in Balito (Kwazulu-Natal)!!

welcome back!!!
i'd try the net and do indepth research...Joburg isnt really all just city... take the many surburbs. peaceful non bustling life, except of course when you go to work, but there's that peace of mind when you get home. bryanston, Randburg, Sandton, Fourways... most are quite pricey because of the area... but pls do research this fully and find something suitable for you and your lifestyl.

best of luck!
