You really should see a doctor since you have had this problem ongoing for a month or more. Still, there are things you can do. Do NOT sit on your bed, or lie on it, when you are not going to sleep. Your brain gets mixed up..........are you there to sleep, or to watch t.v., listen to music, talk on the phone, or ARE you there to sleep!? It sounds old fashioned, but, when you ARE ready to go to sleep, warm a bit of milk and drink it. Let your brain figure out what BED is for. (Not for all those other things I mentioned).
This really is a good method.

Meditation has been a great help to me for insomnia. You can find some simple techniques online. Five or ten minutes of meditation can calm your body and put your mind at rest.

Try sleeping in a dark room.
