It may be an inferiority (Napoleonic) complex, or something along those lines. They are probably very aware of what they look like, but are trying to make up for it with confidence. They were probably taught that confidence was good, but whoever taught them this forgot to mention that too much is bad.

i hate ugly folks too!! especially the trailer park girls - those ho's need to recognize that they have been beaten with the ugly stick! as for their perfectness - perfect for a trip to a boot in their azs.
