We used to have fence going round our property... used to walk it all the time since we were 4. Fell off a few times... but no broken bones.

Yep, Slipped and fell straddling the fence. An unusually excruciating type of pain.
Not recommended unless you are trying out for a part on Jackass

Not so much a fence, as a guardrail along the side of the road.

your moment of inertia (aka rotational inertia) increases. regardless of how u walk (hands held out or held in) the torque of gravity on ur body acts on ur bodys centre of mass(CM) and has the same magnitude. torque = rot inertia x angular acceleration (basic rotational equation) hence more the rot inertia less the ang acc when ur CM accidently moves to one side during walking. lower ang acc gives u more time to react so u can readjust ur centre of mass easily before losing balance.
