All genres of popular music have been stagnating for the past 10-12 years. There basically is no original music out. Musicianship is dead and gone. Everything is covers, samples, and overproduction. Nobody plays their own instruments anymore. I don't even listen to the radio anymore. I just keep cd's in the car. And most of the cd's that I've purchased over the past 5 years have been compilations of old stuff.

I'd say rock is slowing down a bit being that every "rock" band that is out now sound the same or are absolutely terrible. Either that or they're too pop. Any rock that's left is either slightly underground or still hanging on from the 90's or prior. I have a handful that I listen to that the majority of people haven't heard of yet. Hopefully some great new bands will emerge soon.

Yeah, it's sad to say, but I think rock music is dying a slow and painful death.
