My doctor whom I don't trust anymore, told me to stop taking multi-vitamins for most of the second trimester but I'm 2 weeks away from the 8th month and will start on them again without the Dr's ok about it. Did the Dr's bad advice cost the baby? What will be the affects on the baby cause of the lack of multi-vitamins? It is my first pregnancy.

This doctor is a female who has 3 kids of her own. I'm American and she's Egyptian, I live in the Middle East, so I don't know if she is expecting me to go through pregancy in this regions standards but really, I think in my next pregnancies, I'll stick to American standards. I already told my husband that I want a different Dr. and that this one will definitly not be handling my birth. My husband did many c-sections but refuses to do mine. The Dr. that will be handling the birth will definitly be American trained. My husband works for a Pharmacuetical company and this Dr. that told me this is one of the people that he supplies.

wow, why would your doctor tell you that? I would ask him to defend his statement. My doc is very very laid back, but he was adamant about taking my vitamins up to and through labor (especially if I was planning on breastfeeding). I wouldn't worry too much about your baby, s/he should be fine as long as you were eating a healthy diet. The important thing for the kid to get is folic acid during neural development and it sounds like you took the vitamins during that time. I would sit down adn have a serious talk with your doctor, I know it's late in the game but is there an associate you coudl switch to?

First and foremost I'm sure the doctor doesn't have something against you and your baby and now he's trying to get rid of it. Second of all if your doctor tells you to do something I'm pretty sure that he's telling you that for you and your babies safety. Maybe your blood or urine test came back and you had too many of whatever proteins or something inside your blood that can cause whatever to happen to you and your baby and that's why he asked you to stop taking the multivitamins. I swear people kill me, you act like multivitamins are these miracle drugs that make everything okay and they're not. You're so worried about the doctors advise costing you the baby what about your bad advice to yourself costing you the baby, now if something was to happen to the baby I'm pretty sure you'd blame it on the doctor even though he told you to stop taking the vitamins. A lack of multivitamins is not going to do anything to you or the baby, you continuing to take the vitamins after you were told not to may do something to you and the baby. I don't mean to come across like an *** because like you said this is your first pregnancy, but multivitamins are not that serious hun they're really not, but like I said if you were told to stop taking them and you still are then yes it may be serious.

I would not say it's bad advise at all. Unless you eat horribly, there is not a lot of reason to pump your body with more vitamins that your body doesn't need or use. Most Doctors prescribe these vitamins assuming that the woman does not eat right (because so many people don't eat right).
I have had 2 healthy babies without taking vitamins. If you eat a balanced diet then supplements are not needed. People have been healthy babies for thousands of years without vitamins.

I think people in the West tend to jump on medicines for no reason. I have had my first two children without taking any multi-vitamins, folic acid or other new fashion treatments, and they are perfectly healthy. Then i come to the UK, and with my third pregnancy, I am given a battery of vitamins to take, starting with this horrible folic acid thing.. you know what, i could not stand having all these pills, i decided to go natural, and my pregnancy is going very well. i eat healthy food, lots of green, salad, vegetable, which I steam cook, plenty of beans, meat, and fish, fruits of all colors, and i am perfectly fine and have no intention to take vitamins on top of that. eat healthily and your baby will be perfectly fine. i am totally against these new medicines every now and then, and usually people discover their bad effects after five years... no way. women have been having children for years now, get your omega3 from your fish, your iron from your meat and beans, and your vitamins from fruit. i am sure the doctor is perfectly weel placed to give you advice to stop these extra vitamins. your baby will take what she needs from your body, do not worry, and trust nature.

Should you not be on preggo vitamins? I've never heard of a Dr saying stop taking vitamins. I wouldn't listen to him. I would say keep taking your preggo vitamins. Has he checked your iron level? Often towards the end your baby will take more from you than before. If you find you're real tired that's one indication that you are low. Your little one is taking so much from you and you do need the extra suff in you! So keep taking them! Is it too late to switch Dr?

I don't think it will matter.I had been taking sanatogen pro natal before becoming pregnant with my 1st child and my doctor told me to stop and just take folic acid until the 12th week. After that I didn't take any vitamin supplements and my diet is pretty average, home cooked and healthy along with take away and convenience food!
My baby, now one, is perfectly healthy! During pregnancy the baby takes all the good nutrients from the food you are eating anyway so try not to worry and just enjoy your baby when he/she arrives! Good luck.

Thats strange he would tell you that, but I have two children, the first I took vitamins with and the second, I didn't take the first one (vitamin) and she turned out bigger than the first and very healthy. But I am with you, I would take them anyways.

Ask your doctor why he doesn't want you to take them, I've never heard of stopping prenatal vitamins during pregnancy.
