when u go for an ultrasound, how do they tell how far u are? do they determine by how big the baby is? if so... what if the baby is growing a lil faster?

they go by the size of the baby and what has been developed. if it grows a little faster they really don't care about changing the date later on unless it is more than at least 10 days-it would most likey not grow that much faster(ultrasounds are fairly correct within a weeks or so)

I went for my first ultrasound at 12 weeks. They use measurements of the baby to determine when you are due. around 5 months they can usually tell you the sex of the baby. There are many reasons the baby could be bigger than expected, your dates could be off a bit. Every baby grows at a different rate, they just use averages for size and age.

They will measure the baby and then calculate the size and then give you a pretty close estimate of the due date. The 1st ultrasound will be the actual due date and as you progress along the due dates may change on the u/s but they will most likely go by the 1st one. I am due April 24th, but since my son is growing alittle faster/bigger due to diabetes his due date has moved up on the u/s only. The last one showed April 11th I think. We are going to induce on April 12th unless I go into labor before that. Good luck.

The ultrasound tech will measure different parts of the baby, like the head, legs and abdomen. Then, with those measurements they will tell you how far along you are. Babies grow at different rates even inside the womb, so they are really just making a very educated guess. But due dates are rarely correct, so it's all good.

They will first ask you if they havent been told already the date of your last period, and that is what they go by. BUT, i went for my 12 week scan last week, she got the mesurement of the baby while scanning me,and found out i was actually 13 weeks. They will put you at ease on any questions that you want to ask. Other than the sex and for downes. Congratulations and good luck!!

They will tell you all of that. The earlier you get the ultrasound the more accurate the due date will be. My doctor told me anything below 20 weeks is accurate.

they have standards of what a fetus should be depending on how many weeks you are. they measure and compare to those standards. there is always room for error +/- 2-3 weeks
