Dufus (also spelled doofus) is an American student slang word from the 1960's. It possibly is a portmanteau word which is a combination of
doof (Scottish for fool) and goofus (fool).

I researched the word "dufus". It is also spelled "doofus".

The closest I got to a origin was the Scots, or Scotland. Of course you know it is slang for stupid and etc.
