Hi

I work in Medicines and a Pharmacist...

Anyone can OWN a pharmacy; you can run the business no problem...

The problem you will find is you WILL by law always have to have a fully Q pharmacist on site to check prescriptions...

Truthfully I do the pharmacy inspections for the new contract and their is NO money for independent small pharmacies as the big stores are leading the way, the likes off Boots, Lloyds buy quantities in such large amounts its impossible to compete …

You can buy at your local independent Mr Smiths Pharmacy Calpol 200ml for £ 3.80, go to Boots or Asda and buy the same for £ 1.80…

Also with the new contract there is little £££ to be made like their use to be, with Medicine Review’s coming into play and a lot paper work A LOT…

My advice is stay clear, it will cost you a fortune without the £ to make it back….

Stick to your career, and tell your Mrs she needs to be working in the PCT it’s the ONLY place to make GOOD ££££ and be treated right in the world of Medicine, as for anything else I would avoid like the plague…

Even locums and hospital pharmacies are on crap £££ now…

Hope this helps but seriously I wouldn’t waste your £££ unless you have £££ to burn…

Anyone can own and run a pharmacy. Eckerds and Rite Aid are run by businessmen. Only pharmacists can dispense drugs. Before the days of national chains, all drug stores were owned and operated by pharmacists. A person can do both.
I would rather see a pharmacist concentrate on filling prescriptions only, and avoid the distractions of managing a business. It is safer for the customers that way.

In theory, you can own a pharmacy, but you'll need a pharmacist for the licensing of the pharmacy. Most of these independent pharmacies are own by pharmacists, and they prefer to sell out to other pharmacists.

A million dollars in sales is certainly possibly, but a million dollar salary is not.
