80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

What exactly do you mean by 'meaning'?

'God' may exist, but whatever god is, it sure as hell doesn't care about us more than anything else in the universe as the religions would have you beleive

Hence, you arent being judged by anyone, there is no heaven, hell etc when you die you just die and thats it you are no longer (although your physical matter will live on forever).

Hence forget about being good, righteous, principled etc. Our lives are simply a series of emotions governed by chemical reactions. Non-existence, or death, is better than an unhappy life, so all that matters is to try make yourself happy for as much of your life as possible.

The meaning of life is NOT 42, you can't quote a fiction movie for a real answer!
42 came from 'The Hitchikers Guid to the Galaxy'

you will probably know the meaning of life and everything else after you are dead.

Meaning of life.. probably every person tries to find the meaning of life one way or other by his own method. but it is difficult to explain one, one can experience the meaning.

Practice the following for a period of three months honestly.:-

1.be humble, believe & love god with your fullest capacity
2. Do not greed for any thing which is not yours.
3. Respect, love & help every individual friend or enemy.
Practice this honestly for 3 months.

what i know now about life is based on very limited experiences. i am still figuring out the meaning of life. on the last day of this mortal life, i will come to know the true meaning of it.

as of now life means more exploration, more willingness to experience life's challenges, more pain and suffering topped with joy and happiness once in a while.

Life in general is too big a subject to ponder about. Try: what is the meaning of living this moment? And if you conclude it doesnt make sense, go on and do something else!
