So do you go ahead and use a draft pick on Sammy Sosa this year, or do you let someone else get him?

I know he's not going to hit hit half the homeruns he think he will, but is he worth a chance, with hopes of maybe getting 20 HR's and 60 RBI's?

sammy used to be my favorite player, but no i wouldnt pick him in the draft... i cant see him hitting over .220 with 10hr but he will once again bring your team down with a bunch of strikeouts...then again if he gets off to a good start you can always pick him up from waivers

Totally depends on when your draft is.

If it's late enough in March that you've seen him play and you can gauge whether or not he's going to make the big-league club, it might be worth a late-round pick.

If he does make the big club he'd become a key component of the middle part of the order, probably hitting 6th or so with lots of RBI opportunities and that ballpark is a joke, you could probably hit 20 homeruns there, so Sosa--if he is healthy--shouldn't struggle to do the same.

So, I'd say yes. If he's putting up decent numbers in Spring Training and seems to have locked up a spot on the roster...make a late-round move to bolster your outfield depth.

Worst case scenario...you drop him a few weeks later.

I don't believe he took steroids either, Sammy Sosa has been one of my favorite all-time players. He got caught ONCE using a corked bat, and everyone made a big deal out of it. He's 39, and he could be a good DH for a team that needs once. The problem is, he probably will want some money like $5-10 million.

I wouldn't draft him unless it's as "Mr. Irrelevant" (your last pick.) He will be in Texas this year, not a hitter friendly park, and is clearly past his prime. He lacks the quickness on the base path and the bat speed that made him the special player that he once was. There is much better talent across the board that will be available.

I'd lay off Sammy and find a young OF, if you want to take a flyer on a prospect.

prolly not. I wouldnt do it. Although he had many great years, he did take off a year and might not get a roster spot. I would see how the draft pans out and see what happens. Usually somebody slips through the cracks so watch out for those guys

He probably won't get drafted so just keep an eye on him later in the season to see if he is worth being picked up

No. I've always like Sammy and hope he's done well, but he has been out of baseball a year and it's tough for someone (especially his age) to come back and expect to put up good #'s. I hope he proves me wrong, but I just don't see it.

Late round only - he might be worth taking a flyer on if you need a player to fill out your lineup. I think getting some proper coaching from Rudy Jaramilo(sp) can only help. He won't get his old numbers, but he could be some help.

That might be a wasted high round draft pick this year...I'd put him on do not draft or move him to a very late round.
