I assume your doctor or midwife has told you you are dehydrated? What tests did they perform? Did they just exammine your urine? Did they perhaps just look into your eyes and exammine your skin? Was it a blood test?

Yes, it's possible to be dehyrdated without being sick - the easiest way to combat this is to drink more water and fruit and vegetables, whilst avoiding caffeine and cola.

But the thing that intrigues me in this case is how did they diagnose it, and what advice did they give you?

I am a midwife myself and dehyration in early pregnancy is usually a side effect of extreme nausea and vomiting, in a patient who is otherwise taking good care of themselves. Dehydration in later pregnancy can trigger premature labour, so make sure you keep up your water intake as much as you can.

It is much easier to get dehydrated during pregnancy...in the beginning alot of your water goes into the amniotic fluid and the baby needs some as well. So, during pregnancy your fluid intake should be increased two fold. If you wait until you are thirsty, you have waited too long. Drink plenty of fluids and try to make the majority of the fluid that you drink water. Kool-aid, drink mixes, flavored water, and gatoraid are ok as well, but try to steer clear of caffiene which can be self defeating. Even tea can cause you to be farther dehydrated. Good luck with everything!

How did you come about finding out you were dehydrated if you had no symptoms? I've heard that it is not good, you need to go to the doctor and have them push IV Fluids if you are that dehydrated. Good Luck!

i havent actually heard anything, but i know with me i seem to get busy in my day that i forget to drink like i should sometimes. even though i may not have symptoms at the time, im sure our pregnant bodies suffer over time. I will even get up in the middle of the night cause i just feel sooooo thirsty. ill drink a whole bunch of water. sometimes im up the rest of the night making bathroom breaks other times the water i drank must have been needed cause i sleep just fine. i also have more head aches when i dont drink well enough.
even though u may not have issues now with dehydration, im sure it will catch up with u and me lol. so the best thing to do i guess is always have something with u to sip on so u know ur trying. especially being preggo! good luck with u and God Bless

If you're not having adequate intake of food and fluids, you could end up being dehydrated even if you're not vomiting. Also, check your urine output, you might be losing large amounts of fluid in your urine. Better go to your doctor right away. Severe dehydration is dangerous especially if you're pregnant.
