I saw this sentence recently in a letter and I am wondering if it is gramatically correct.

Thanks

Gramatically, no it is not correct. A question mark is missing. Also, because is not a proper answer to the question which is being asked. The recipient does or may not want to know how that person is. It should be. " I am asking because I feel fine at the moment and was wondering how you are feeling."

It may be technically gramatically correct, (and this sort of thing is used commonly), but it's not really good usage. "How are you? I'm fine." would be better--The "Because" is meaningless, and there should be a question mark.

hmmm, maybe--but if so it means "How does my being fine impact on you?" I'd do it without the comma, but commas are not a straight-forward piece of punctuation.
