i mainly use it for downloading and storing tv shows. i also want something that's not too heavy since i have to bring it someimes for presentations.

Check out Lenovo, if not, go for the traditional, asured, hewlett packard. Do not go for a Vaio, unless you want to pay for a "nice" design.

Dell makes the cheapest. I use one of their desktops without problems, but I can't swear for the quality of their laptops.

Sony has some VAIO's for around $1000 that are pretty pimped out. They've got one that has a 14" screen, and looks quite a bit more rugged than most laptops.

Macbooks are good, though a bit more expensive.

Go for Lenovo laptop. They have Dolby sound, TV tuner card and what not.
