I have a blockage in the heater core and want to try a chemical in the system 1st to avoid taking things apart.

always flush first thain run the clean out chemical 2nd than flush again remove thurmostat when flushing a garden hose works good to flush with dont clamp it in just hold it to the heater hoses

Your best bet is to have the cooling system reverse flushed by a professional - this method also cleans out the heater core. If they can't clean it out, I doubt anything else will, either.

rislone makes a radiator flush kit napa, or oreilly or auto zone, advance auto parts etc walmart have them.
