No. Your child should sign it when they are old enough to go seeking a job.

This is such a good question, I've never thought to ask. When my son was born in 2002- I signed it not even thinking about it! It hasn't been a problem so far, and I hope it isn't later on in life!

I don't know the actual rule, you'd have to check with the SSA, but I remember my mom having me sign mine when I was a teenager. She held on to it for a while after that, but it wasn't signed until I signed it.
Check the back, too, I don't think you're supposed to laminate them anymore either.

I didn't and I've not had any problem with anyone accepting it. I even used it to get his passport and visa to India last year (he was about seven months at the time). So, if the government accepts it unsigned - and other coutries accpet it - I don't see why anyone else would give you a problem :))

Also, my parents didn't sign mine either...

Yes...I signed my son's and my mom signed mine. Someone has to sign it for them for they can't write yet and there is nothing wrong in doing so, you'll won't get into trouble.

There is no reason to really. My kids signed theirs when they were able to.

No you kept for them until they get older makesure it is in a safe place when its time for them to use it they will sign it

no you need to let your child sign it eventally, so its vaild.

I didn't. It's supposed to invalid if you don't but people still accept it.
