America invaded Iraq and removed a dictator...a person who killed people for speaking out against the government.

The Dixie Chicks received death threats for speaking their minds about the president. Freedom of Speech, I thought, was a protected right for all...and no exceptions were made for 'celebrities', last time I checked.

You may have found their words offensive and inappropriate...but death threats? Is this your America?

I'm sorry if my analogy was flawed...you're right. The Chicks were NOT condemned by the government. But I still find it sad that Americans find it acceptable that three young women lived in fear for almost a year because one said she was ashamed that the President came from her state.

You are not seriously comparing Iraq and Sadam Hussein to George Bush and America? Sadam would put political opponents in to a meat grinder while they were still alive. A REAL MEAT GRINDER!!! He tortured Olympic athletes when they did not win the gold medal. He raped and murdered thousands. The Dixie Chicks said some stupid things and have since been on the cover of "Newsweek" and won a Grammy. They still have the freedom to say what they want and continue to make a career out of singing. If they can't take a few death threats they should either 1. SHUT THE F**K UP!!!! or 2. Stop being famous singers who make their living by the sales of records to the public.

No, I don't think so! AND about free speech, well that doesn't give you the right to offend others. Your rights end where someone else start. In America we have all kind of people with different thinking, we are not all perfect and that's what make us great. Isn't the same way in your country??

About your last comment, that they, the Dixie chicks, lived in fear for a whole year,,, how do you know that, are they friends of yours or just trying to make an issue of something that does not exist as you say...

LOL....did the Dixie Chicks receive the death threats from our government? No they did not. You have no idea what a dictator ship is like. If we had a dictatorship, you would already be gone. The Dixie chicks as entertainers have the right to say what they wish, but Americans have their rights too. Yesterday as I was checking out at the grocery store the woman (a cop) in front of me was looking at the newspaper contemplating buying it. Then she turns to the check out girl and says "I was going to buy the paper until I saw the Dixie Chick were in it".....then she left the store. She has her rights too and that is the chance entertainers and media take when they shoot off their big mouths.

no,we are not entering into a dictator state.
your analogy is flawed-I could use a far fetched ridiculous analogy and say that a death threat is exercising freedom of speech, although we know that is wrong too.
and I really don't give a rat's @ss about the dixie chicks anyway.

The Dixie Chicks were not threatened by the government. There is sometimes little defense against our ignorant neighbors who would threaten people for disagreeable speech.

Your analogy is flawed.

Students at Columbia attacked Jim Gilchrist on stage when he was invited to speak. And here we believe the left are so open to freedom of speech . Not.

Like nobody here on Y!A hasn't gotten hate email ever.
America is America, not a dictatorship. If you speak your mind, others will disagree, some with more gusto than others.

Loads of celebs(left and right) get death threats. Is this something new? I don't think so. Lots of regular people get death threats (left and right). Now what was your point?
