I have been getting chest pains for the past 15-20 years or so but they disappear when i have a drink of fluid, can anyone explain if this is anything to worry about please? (I am aged 50, and relatively healthy for a heavy drinker & light smoker)

Never ignore chest pains. See a doctor for a check-up as soon as possible. Chances are it's nothing to worry about, but since you're a heavy drinker & a smoker, it's better to be safe than sorry. I speak from personal experience.

I have been to the Dr for chest pains and I was told I have arthritis on my stern-em, you may have ARS (acid reflux syndrome) never just discount chest pains what may have went away in the past might be something totally different today, it would be wise to get a cardiac work up and remember sometimes EKG may only show something if you are actually having a heart attack, there have been people that went to the doctor had a normal EKG and had a heart attack on the way home, remember that it is better to have a false alarm then a heart attack. get it checked out.

You might be having esophageal spasms and thus the relief when you drink fluid. But chest pain can also be due to some heart problem and considering your age and your habits (smoking and drinking) a thorough check up is needed.

Mate,

You really must get this checked out. 3 weeks ago, i thought i had pulled a muscle in my shoulder, turns out I was having a heart attack. Now at home after a week in hospital and surgery. I hope your problem is nothing like mine but you really must get it checked. P.S. I'm 44 years old,and like a beer and a smoke.

You need to go to your doctor and make them listen to you. So many GPs just don`t take any notice. Pains in your chest are not something to me taken lightly

Indigestion can cause pressure on the chest cavity...you may just need to modify your diet...to be sure you need to go discuss this with your doctor
