I remember "Sannie se sewe sakke sout" getting me interested in studying Afrikaans, while the "Click Song'' got me interested in studying African languages. Mandoza's "Nkalakatha" made me become aware of the urban African lifestyle. "Hie kommie bokke" made me feel patriotic. I can go on forever. What South African music made YOU wanna dance?

AHHH there are many, I currently love DO BE DO BE.........

BUT what Porgie says is true. So many songs from other cultures opened a new window to me. The music from Ladysmith Black Mambazo (Never listyened to them till they were discivered by USA , I am ashamed to say)

I love DOZI singing traditional Afrikaans songs in Zulu

Mandoza's music is great

Ag pleaze daddy wont you take us to the drive in..... provided hours of delight to me.

The FIRST record i owned was SONBRILLETJIES

Hahaha! didn't know that Alf Garnett has also entered the succession race!

Yes, I remember Motho ke motho ka batho. That's the ubuntu that we so much talk about in this country. I also remember "Die trein na matjiesfontein". I don't what it was about but like the rhythm. But my life was more influenced by the likes of Stimela's Whispers in the deep and Sankomota's Fruits of your toil.

LOL Now I wonder...is it going to be very politically incorrect to say "Die Stem"? Uit die blou van onse berge... That always raised hair on my neck, I took it very seriously! I absolutely love Afrikaans music, just got cd's from home for me and my son's birthdays with Afrikaans music, and it is a real treat! Too many favourites to mention!

Okay well me being proud SA girl!! (Boere meisie) I would say Bok van Blerk: De La Rey and Jy praat nogsteeds my taal!!! I am in Germany for a year of study and that song gave me back my spirit!! And Chris Chameleon: Houvas!! It made me think about love and our people!!

And the old natural "Afrikaners is plesierig"!!

Totally agree with Innocent......awesome song. And you got to add Shosholoza, as well as that Jock of the Bushveld song....can't remember the name at the moment.... maybe also those famous Castle lager advert songs - not the association with the beer, but just the songs. Brings back memories and makes one long for home - and that's where I'm heading back to in 2 months!! Yay!

I studied music, and I must confess, none! What I can say, is that the AFRICAN music has changed drastically these last 10 years. Thank goodness, the African music's harmonies was as good as a horror movie
