Sissy Spaceck was brilliant as Carrie! Steven King's novels are always really interesting. People who are shunned or ridiculed by others because they are different can relate to the character Carrie. Carrie was rejected by her peers because she was not like everyone else. She didn't look nor act like the popular girls at school and was often ridiculed by them. Also, sometimes inside of the group of the mean popular girls, there is actually a person that have a heart and don't like to see anyone being put down. The character Sue Snell represents that type of person just like Mary Jane in Spiderman. She tries to help out or be friendly toward Carrie in a way that her friends won't find out because she does not want to be looked at as a traitor to her friends. I think the story really can relate to AH, because we have seen throughout the course of history, that sometimes when a person is a religious extremist, they will judge anything that a person feels or can do and is not accordance to their beliefs, as being of the Devil. Carrie mother is an example of this where she did not understand that just because Carrie had the gift of telekinesis, a subject that was not covered in the Bible, that Carrie was possessed by the Devil. Also, sometimes when things that are a normal human function(for Carrie it was having her menstruation) is overlooked or not discussed because of religious restrictions, it could leave a person clueless or terrified when these things occur in their life. I am in no way putting down religious practices because most do cover words to grow on but when people choose to omit what is written and revise it to accommodate their own personal beliefs and interpretations, that is when it can become dangerous to others.

Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) is the outsider of her class. She's a mousy girl, all of her classmates hate her, and her mother (Piper Laurie) is a religous fanatic who walks around in a black cape. After she unexpectedly has her first period, she is teased by the girls more ruthlessly than before. The gym teacher (Betty Buckley) punishes the girls that were involved and one of them, Sue Snell (Amy Irving), feels sorry for what she did and asks her boyfriend (William Katt) to take Carrie to the prom instead of her. But another girl that has been banned from the prom, Chris Hargenson (Nancy Allen), isn't so forgiving and hatches an evil plan with her boyfriend (John Travolta) that involves Carrie and a bucket full of pig's blood. But what none of the students realize is that Carrie has the power of telekenisis, the power to move things with your mind, and that when you make her mad, she transforms from an innocent girl to a rage-filled monster. And this is gonna be a prom no one will ever forget.

I think it is the closest anyone has gotten to bringing King from the book to the screen.
