I have the same problem with my Acer pc. I have done all the usual checks and I have to refresh back to the date where my speakers where working. Can't find out the problem why this has just started happening? My guarantee has expired but maybe yours hasn't? My first Acer had to be replaced as it kept freezing. Maybe problems with this model? Good luck anyhow

Check all the cables. They can just fall out.
Then go to Device Manager and see if your sound card and drivers are installed properly. If there's a yellow ! next to your multimedia category in Device Manager, you got driver problems.... roll back the driver or install a new one downloaded from Acer's website.

Acer`s loudspeakers are such "tinny" sounding things anyway.
Get some freestanding speakers.

Make sure you did not accidentally hit the mute button on your keyboard.
