Not sure about the history on Potassium bromide, but based on the method they use to make it, PBr could have been around a long time. They use a double replacement reaction Iron bromide + potassium carbonate => iron carbonate (ppt) + potassium bromide (aq). Then they just filter and crystallize the salt.

The reagents have been around even in early times. Potassium carbonate is potash. The brown crystals of ferric bromide could have been collected for their unique character by apothecaries. Ferric bromide can sublime and re-condense on a cold surface, a very neat trick.

I could not find any information about its discovery, there are many compounds that do not have a record of their discovery. This may be one.
