Hi,
Right click on My-Computer on Desktop. Then choose "Properties"-->then "Advanced"-->Then under Performance box "Settings" --> then again Advanced then click on "Change".

In this window, choose the drive one by one, then select "system managed size" and click "set". Repeat this process for all drives.

You may need to restart computer after this.

1. Click on your start menu. You will see a choice for My Computer. Right click on this.
2. Select Properties from the menu that appears. A System Properties page will pop up with several tabs.
3. Select the Advanced tab.
4. Select the Performance Settings button. Performace Options box appears.
5. Select Advanced tab.
6. Select the Virtual Memory Change button.
7. Increase the size of your VM and close out the box.

None of this will work if you're not the administrator on your PC. If it's your home PC, this probably won't be an issue.

Virtual Memory is a part of your hard drive which Windows uses to store information that it doesn't need to access at a particular point in time.

The virtual memory is typically 3 * the RAM you have installed (so about 1.5GB in your case).

Windows, by default, will store this on the root of your C: drive in a file called pagefile.sys.

If your C drive is running out of space then you can get this message.

Try and free some space on your C Drive, or right-click on 'My Computer' and choose Properties, Click on Advanced, then Performance Settings, then Advanced and then Change.

You can use this to either allow Windows to use more space, or to store you swapfile another hard disk drive.

Your PC has two memory systems it uses your 512mb memory and also a virtual memory syatem that uses a file on your hard drive to store information.

You may need to increase the size allocated to the paging file.

To do this go to control panel > system information > advanced and choose settings under Performance. then choose advanced and choose change under virtual memory choose system managed or set it to at least twice the ram you have.

A further change I would suggest is a memory upgrade, you will notice a huge difference if you upgrade to 1gb of memory.

It means you're running more or bigger programs than you have before. When windows runs out of RAM it uses disk to swap programs in and out. It *should* calm down once you stop adding things for it to do.

Make sure you have enough hard drive space available (at least a gig or two) for swap.

If it doesn't seem to calm down, rt-click on My computer, select properties, select the advanced tab, click settings under Performance, select "Advanced" and "Change" under virtual memory.

It probably has System managed size selected. Click Custom Size and as the initial size, use the recommended; double it for maximum size. **make sure you have enough hard drive space**

Now repeat after me.... "Doing this does NOT make me a computer nerd. Doing this does NOT make me a computer nerd. Doing this does NOT...." :)

There are two reasons-
1> Your computer is harmed by a Worm , A type of virus that uses soo much RAM. Use an effective antivirus to remove it. I have faced this problem. I have CA antivirus. It's good AV. It's a paid software. Take it's link http://shop.ca.com/virus/antivirus.aspx
OR
2> A program that you are running is consuming more RAM than your computer have. To see the RAM usage, open task manager by Pressing Ctrl + Alt +Del and go to Proccesses Tab in it.

The virtual memory is space allocated on your hard drive that acts as RAM (random access memory).

You can increase this in the control panel settings for your PC.

This can happen if you've had the PC on for a long time, and a simple reboot will commonly cure it. The other folks here have made some excellent and accurate answers.
