I'm only 8 weeks pregnant, and have not yet had my first appointment with my doctor. My concern is that in weighing daily I've noticed I have not gained a single pound (still at 108) ( I'm 5'4 by the way ). Ive been eating as many small meals a day as I can hold down, usually ( breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner ). Should I have gained weight by now, or is morning sickness preventing any gain? Ive also noticed that even when I'm not hungry but know I need to eat I'm unable to because I'm nauseated, do I eat anyway, even though I know I wont be able to hold it down? How can I be sure I'm eating enough/the right porportions? The crazy thing is my abdomen is swollen so I look like Ive gained weight, but havent. I've been told that 2-4 lbs is acceptable for the first few months, but does that mean I should have gained weight already or what? I'm sorry if I sound ignorant, this is my first pregnancy and I'm so lost and want to be sure so any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Being that you are only 8 weeks pregnant, no you should not really be gaining yet. Maybe a pound if that. The baby is so small still so no gain isn't a concern. The most weight gain should be during your second trimester. (I just had a baby 12/22/06). Morning sickness can definately slow weight gain, but if you are eating the meals you stated and snacks then you are fine.

You hopefully have your first OB appointment set up, they will advise you if you are worried still. I don't think now is a time to worry about it. I only gained 10 lbs and still had a 7 lb baby. Everyone is different...and with your first baby you really don't start showing for a while yet. I was 6 months before "other people" could even tell..even though I could.

Congrats on the new pregnancy, and good luck. You will be so impatient to start showing etc, then you will be ready to get the baby out around 35 weeks...funny how you need your body back after a while...

Ok, I am rambling...so NO your lack of weight gain at 8 weeks pregnant is NO need for concern, eat dry crackers to help with the morning sickness, and get your rest.

Relax. I'm 16 weeks and I only just gained my first pound. Baby and uterus is growing normally.
I was feeling so rotten and sick early on that I actually lost four pounds. It's nice to be back to what I weighed when I got pregnant. Now I'm hoping for regular weight gain.
Normal weight gain for first 13-14 weeks is only four pounds.
I stressed all the time too about, wondered if there was some effect on my baby, but my dr's assured me to relax, and when the nausea stopped, I felt like eating more and more and now feel I'm on the right track finally.
It's hard to know what to do with your first pregnancy. My first pregnancy I had 8 or ten pounds on by now, lol, no nausea with my son.
Anyways, just do what you are doing, small frequent meals. Make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins, and drinking your four cups of milk each day.
Eat plenty of oranges and just eat well.

Also, because you are a tiny girl your belly will poke out faster than a bigger woman because you don't have a lot of room there for the baby to grow. I popped out much sooner with my first. This time I'm only starting to pop a little now.
Good luck and congrats on the baby!

I was your exact same size with my first pregnancy! It is not uncommon to gain no wait or to even lose weight during the first trimester of pregnancy. It all depends on how bad a hormone rush you are getting etc. If you are already pretty nauseated you probably will not gain very much during the first trimester.

Just keep eating when you can and make sure there's a wide variety of foods in your diet if you can tolerate them. Do not torture yourself by eating foods that make you nauseous just because they're supposed to be good for you. (I can't tolerate any dairy the first trimester and my 4 kids are just fine.) It will help your body grow a big baby on less pounds.

Your body will keep on moving it's resources around to your tummy. When you're so small you start to show immediately! Taking the pressure off that bulge by wearing loose skirts and stretchier pants and waist-less dresses will actually help with the nausea!

Congratulations and Good Luck!

Weight gain during the first trimester is possible, although not all women experience it. I didn't gain any weight until my 19th week and then I suddenly found myself up 10 pounds in a month. Just keep trying to eat healthy and get plenty of rest. Usually, the nausea most women experience during their first few months result in weight loss. Perhaps you should start taking some vitamins if you feel that you can no longer keep your food down. That way, your baby will be supplied with the necessary vitamins and nurtients. However, it is best to consult these things with the doctor first.

yeah you're well! The time while you are going to be gaining weight swiftly is closer to the tip while the little one might be gaining a pound per week. From your weight I count on you're in well wellness and the start mom's pre being pregnant weight determines the results of her baby's wellness. Overall you desire to reap 20-35 lbs. Don't fear your frame continues to be adjusting like loopy to help the little one. Just do not have the mentality that you're consuming for 2 or you are going to get fats you simply must consume no less than each and every 3 hours and that being small foods. Congrats and well success.

Don't get all hyper on your weight. The truth is, weight gain is different for every woman, and sometimes for every pregnancy. I gained 60 lbs with my first child, ten of those before I knew I was pregnant...then with my next two, I had gestational diabetes (temporary diabetes that comes with preganancy) and actually lost weight.

Your OB or midwife will moniter your weight gain. If he or she sees a problem, they will give you a recommendation. But right now, I think its too early to worry about it.

It's not unusual for women to gain NO weight before the end of their first trimester. Don't worry about it!

Make sure you are taking a good multivitamin to help ensure proper nutrition despite the morning sickness. I hope you are planning on heading to the doctor soon!

Congratulations and good luck. :)
