We find out in 5 weeks if our daughter has a place in our favourite primary school. is there anyway that we can find out before the official date? or do we have to wait until then?

Nope there isnt a way you can find out quicker.
If you dont get a place make sure you appeal (and if your LEA is part of the local authority as most are) then go to the Ombudsman after the appeal.
Make enough noise and they will find you a place

u have to wait! at my kids school closing date is about 15th march then they decide the kids who live in catchment go first then kids who have brothers or sisters in the school and IF there is any places left the rest can fight over them!!!! my oldest 2 are in a local school (but not my catchmant school) now i dont know if my son can go!!

ring the school, they can either say yes or no.
