The correct way to square a fraction is....
(5/2)^2
*The numerator & denominator are in parenthesis, meaning both are raised to the 2nd power.
*You have to multiply the numerator & denominator by itself, twice.

Yes, it is like 5/2 * 5/2, but, no, 5/2 * 5/2 is not 25/2 but 25/4. You have to multiply the nominators *and* the denominators when multiplying fractions. So in general
(a/b)^2 = a/b *a/b = (a*a) / (b*b) = (a^2) / (b^2)

I agree that to sq. a spread you need to multiply it through itself. In a fragment you need to do it to the numerator and the denominator. 2/3 x 2/3 =4/9 (2/3)^2=4/9 (4/6)^2=16/36 which reduces to 4/9

That's exactly how, you multiply it by itself.
When you multiply a fraction, you do both the top and the bottom.
(1/6)^2 your way would be 1/6, which doesn't make sense.
1/6 * 1/6 = 1/36
Your question becomes 25/4, or 6.25.
