Here's the funny part: Utah has a "concealed carry" law. There were more armed men in that mall than just the off-duty Ogden Ciy police officer who went into harm's way to protect his fellow citizens. How many of these guys who spent years lobbying the State Legislature to get the concealed carry law pulled their pieces along with that cop? Zero, zip, nada. The NRA's arguments against gun control are full of hot air. When the stuff hit the fan in SLC, the legally gun-totin' populace ran away and only a single, brave police officer answered the challenge.

There was an off duty police officer at the mall........... he killed the gunman. Gun control does not control criminals. Criminals do not follow the law, they get their guns illegally! Utah gun laws are not as lenient as stated above.
I think that what needs to be addressed is the issue of mental health. There are so many people with mental illnesses who cannot afford treatment and cannot afford their medications. These people are just walking the streets.

I happen to agree with wofford . The gun control thing would not work here cause there would always be a way for a criminal to get a gun . And besides there are people in the western states and northern states and mid western states that need a gun because of coyote problems and wolf problems. They have livestock to protect . good luck.

The guy was a Bosnian Muslim Refugee. WHat makes you think he obtained that gun legally? heck, he wasn't even inthe USA legally...Gun control wouldn't have stopped him. It's not the law abiding gun owners who are doing these deeds---get a grip.

Utah is one of the most one of the most right wing gun friendly states in the nation. So your theory kinda goes out the window.

Utah: State law forces police chiefs and state sheriffs to give concealed carry permits (CCW) to anyone who can buy a handgun. State law allows residents of some other states to carry concealed weapons in Utah without even informing local police. The State Attorney General has stated that universities may not restrict CCW holders from carrying guns on campus and the Attorney General has also stated that state agencies may not restrict CCW holders from carrying guns into state facilities.

UTAH GUNS LAWS
No limitations on assault weapons and magazines.

Attorney General can not regulate guns

No ballistic fingerprinted prior to sale

May police do not limmit carrying concealed handguns

No background checks required at gun shows

No license/permit required to buy handguns

Guns are not registered with law enforcement

Legal for CCW permit holders to carry guns into schools

No waiting period on gun sales

How does "gun control" keep criminals and wackos from using guns? The reason they're criminals and wackos is because they don't obey the law. Law-abiding citizens obey the law, why should they have to turn in their guns?

How many laws did this guy break.

Now do your really think with more laws on the books he would have said, "Oh I don't want to get into trouble and shot anybody because of that new law."

Like the assualt weapons ban and did it do anything.

Nope.

He broke several gun control laws to do it. If everybody in the mall would have had a gun, he would have been dead much sooner.
