I actually just graduated as a Sociology mojar and my emphasis was in Race Relations as well as Social problems (specifically homelessness and capital punishment).

Race has always been an issue growing up in L.A., we have everyone, yet no ne can get along. The spark an interest for me. Here all races seem to hate each other and it is not one of those places where race feelings are kept for when you are at home and then start using racial slurrs, it is out in the open.

Homelessness is simply intolaerable in my opinion. With the amount of money that circulates around this country and all of the million and billionaires it is absolutely absurd. And to know that more than 25% of those who are homeless are U.S. military veterans makes it even worse. The country loved them when they were blocking bullets that our governement wouldn't send their own kids to fight, yet once we are done with them, forget them. Pretty pathetic.

Lastly capital punishment, I believe in eye for an eye, but not in the sense that U.S. takes it. I think if a man rapes a woman or child he should be strapped face down on a table in the middle of the prison yard daily. I think if someone murders a child, that kids parents and/or family should take part in their punishment. Of course this would never be allowed so that leaves me completely against all forms of capital punishment. The state should not be allowed to legally murder people, if murdering is wrong, then the how is state appointed people murdering people alright? You can't kill people to prove that killing is bad. Plus, there are several more reasons that disprove the effectivesness of the death penalty, but I will leave that for you to learn. I will put some of my favorite websites below.

as a professor of sociology at the college level, my area of specialty is alternative lifestyles. my main reason for selecting this field was to build an understanding of the numerous lifestyles that exist out there in society. i also chose this area to promote a better acceptance of people living in an alternative structure.
currently, i'm teaching 4 graduate courses all dealing with alternative lifestyles:

the changing american family
the decision to transgender
what's the GANG doing?
the child is the parent

I have spent the majority (okay all) of my time in graduate school studying the sociology of children and adolescents. I think that teens are fascinating and grossly understudied in the US. It is a difficult time in your life to go through characterized by chaos and misunderstandings of your environment however no one seems to care or to give teens a voice. My master's thesis is on the role that family plays in adolescent sexuality. Totally fascinating!

Women and children. Women and children fall victim to so many social problems. I am a single mother myself with children.
