Yes.. it require hell lotsa RAM to run properly. I was a beta tester for windows Vista and my first try was on my PIV 2.8 Ghz with 512MB of RAM. It was damn damn damn...... slow.. so i upgraded to 1 GB but still the performance was not upto the mark. But with 2GB RAM it works fine and smoothly... :)

Yes Vista needs 2 GB minimum. I had installed Ultimate version on my computer which has 1 GB RAM. After booting it showed 24MB Free. After Running 1 Program it was 0MB Free. see http://vistams.tripod.com/ram_usage.htm For details. Vista has a very strong Anti piracy thing. It reports every thing on your computer to Microsoft, so be sure you dont have Pirated Softwares, MP3s or Videos.

i have windows vista running on my P4 3GHz machine with 512 MB Ram, but the reason it's running fine is I also have a 512MB Graphic card. So if there is no Graphic card then atleast 1 GB RAM is required to make it run fine.

Depends, If you want to experience the Aero interface at its best then don't settle for anything less than 2gb, however microsoft recomends 1gb and i always go a notch higher than what MS suggests. So again if you wana take advantage of the new 3d aero interface then populate your slot with 2gig

Before you buy vista GOOGLE "windows vista problems and issues"

Meanwhile try out some of the free LINUX distributions. My favourite is UBUNTU.

Not sure about that but Vista ain't all that. Xp has finally got most of the bugs worked out of it so what happens? Now we are expected to "upgrade" to a newer even buggier OS.

Systems are being sold with Vista and only 512 so I would think it was enough, but personally have been told 1G would be best.
