The room my desktop is in does not have an internet connection. I want to use an access point in another room. By doing this my modem and router will be separate from my desktop. I bought a wireless router and a wireless usb network adapter for my desktop. I want to make sure this will work before I open them.

Yes, that's why it's wireless. It sounds like you have everything just hook it up and go through the set up.

I would assume you are using wireless-g router(this is what most people buy nowadays) it normally can reach 100 feet in clean condition (when interference is little). It should work, otherwise you can strengthen the signal using wi-fi repeater.
