Text messages, e-mails and advances in broadband technology, allowing even huge files to be transmitted electronically are all good ways to reduce the amount of paper used in offices, homes, car parks etc.

However, I feel that they simply don't go far enough. We need to stop the manufacturing of new paper, and step up the recycling of old. The only way I can see that this could definitely be achieved is to chop down and incinerate all trees over the entire planet. Only then can we make sure no new paper is created.

Who else thinks I should be given a nobel prize?

No - I am quite archaic, and I like having a little phone/address book in my purse, and I like writing things down. I simply must have paper.

No
The advances in technology have given us the opportunity to talk to strangers that we would not otherwise have the opportunity to do. We can share photos with our family with a few quick key strokes. My nieces and nephews who live in different states are very close because they have the option of sharing each others lives in quick emails. I did not have this opportunity when I was a teen. I have a friend that I met on a photography forum. I have learned so much from her and I have never met her in person. In business memos can be transmitted quickly. Money transferred easily. There is a place for all this but....
There is something wonderful about receiving a card or letter in the mail. A feeling I just do not get with e-cards. I love to look at a few pictures of my niece that my sister took that day but I can't hang a monitor on the fridge. I certainly would not want my children's birth certificates or my marriage certificate to be held only in a few memory chips. I want to hold my mortgage in my hand to prove I own my house. I could go on and on. Paper Companies make sure that they plant as many or more trees then they cut down. We need our paper!

In the last two jobs I've had, going "paperless" has created more paper usage. Let's chop down all the trees and just start replanting them on our Moon habitats.....we'll have to start eventually anyway.

We really can't do anything, for me. Like it is a part of everyone's life to use it. If we stop it, then how about the people who has a business in paper making - just an opinion

Although I don't think u should be given a noble peace prize, I do think we should cut down on usage of paper. We recycle all our unwanted paper.

Not me. I love paper. I love doodling on it. I love writing letters. I love drawing. BUT we cannot live without trees! Where would all the tree dwelling birdies live? And the squirrels? How about them? Nope. No Nobel prize for YOU!

It's funny you ask that, as last night I thought of an innovation that would reduce substantially the amount of paper businesses consume (invoices, packing slips, etc.) Not going to disclose all the details because this idea might make me rich one day. :)
