I live in Canada, too, and I love t he loonies and toonies (one dollar coin and two dollar coin). They are enough larger than the quarter to easily tell, as well as being different coloured.

I don't know if the US will ever take on to the dollar coin like Canada, though.

The new presidential dollar coin has not reached many places yet if any. I had the notion it would be released after 2-15-07. There will be 4 different ones per year. They won't circulate much, due to the dollar bill being still printed. I hear people complain of taxes, but they are willing to spend millions on dollar bill printing and the bills last only a few months to a year or so. A coin last 30 years or more. People run around with a mess of quarters in their pockets and have to get rolls to do laundry, but don't seem to understand that a dollar coin which is only slightly bigger than a quarter, takes up the room of 4 of those quarters. I will collect the dollar coins in the mint and proof sets and will also spend them if I can ever get any.

People will not go for a dollar coin that feels like other pocket change. We proved this with the Susan B. Anthony dollar and the Sacajawea dollar.

A dollar coin will need to have some heft to it in order to gain acceptance. I remember the UK 50 pence piece. If you had a pocket full of change, you could reach in and tell the 50p pieces from the rest. THAT is what a dollar coin will need to succeed.

Put me in charge of this, I'll work it out.

Canadain loonies (1 dollar) and toonies (2 dollars)work fine. I can reach into my pocket and differentiate them from one another.

It's okay, as far as coins go. I would rather carry paper, however.
