I love everything about chinese new year. :) even the awkard exchanges with some relatives.

i love the festive goodies especially, this year i actually got to help make some pineapple tarts. i only know how to eat most of the time.

i love cleaning up the house until the last minute, decorating the place, shopping for the new year goodies, ensuring everything is prepared and in place.

i love my reunion dinner, same thing for 20 years, love the free flow of abalone. love going to my relative house or cny dinners on day 1 and day 2. love the yummy yummy food they prepare. pigging out especially.

i love the angpaos of course.

and i adore gambling!

i love realising i have more relatives than i know, and i know alot.

i love having an excuse to just lie around on the sofa, eating goodies and waiting for angpaos to walk to you.

the only thing i do not enjoy is the fact that i cannot celebrate this year because we're mourning.

so enjoy the festivities with your family and i hope everyone will have a prosperous new year with good health all year round! :)

One of my cousins is half Chinese and half caucasian. When he was little he was very ashamed of being Chinese. He denied being half, hated the food, wouldn't bother with anything Chinese. But now that he is older, he has accepted that part of himself and is starting to embrace the culture. Your brother might be the same way. I'm not sure if where you live has a big Chinese population so if it doesn't, your brother might feel the need to fit in with everyone else. He's probably too immature right now, try giving him some time and he may just come around to enjoying Chinese New Year.

I don't like CNY ever since I became of "marriageable" age. Haha! I'm still single and every year, my relatives will descend on poor me to ask the same question: "When are you getting married?" So I've started to strike back by going away during Chinese New Year (foregoing all the ang paos... *sob sob*). Bangkok has become my fav destination of late coz all the shops are still open and I won't die of starvation there coz the restaurants are also open. They even have a big street market in Chinatown and sometimes, they have performances like lion dances there. Then and only then, do I enjoy my Chinese New Year. What a pity for not being to enjoy it in my own home country!

I enjoy the meeting up with extended relatives whom I haven't seen in ages though this can get tedious and annoying - there are only so many times you can hear "wow! you've grown so tall!". And it gets exhausting after you visit 5 families.

The festive food is one main part I enjoy about cny though. I absolutely love the bak kwa (roasted pork) and pineapple tarts. Those are my 2 favourite cny goodies.

Another fun part about cny is the collecting of ang paos (red packets). I get about $200 - $300 on average every year, so that's good. I don't get to spend all of it, but at least I know it's there. :D

Yes, I LOVE CNY and that's the only time where I can get together with my relatives & good friends. And also enjoy good food like pineapple tarts, mandarin oranges etc. But most importantly, to get ang baos (red packets) for people who are still single. Hahaha...

Apart from that, CNY is a time for everyone to relax and enjoy. And CNY brings me joy & happiness and I'm indeed looking very forward to welcome a new year ahead!! Happy New Yr to you and hope you like CNY like me too..

Beside a slightly long holidays, I don't really enjoy much about CNY. So do my wife and my kids. Every outdoors so quiet and every indoors so crowded and noisy. And boys! Giving out the red packet is one of the worst thing for me - to have to remember who I'd given and who I'd not.

Yes??? Errrrr.... No??? :)

Yes : Like gathering with friends and relative, angbao to collect, pineapple tart, "ba gua", "hay bi heam", etc, etc, yummy....

No : Spring cleaning (whole body aching), broke $$$ (spend, spend, spend), everything are expensive during CNY. Most of the shop closed, TV program boring. :(

Anyway, Happy Chinese New Year to everybody. :)
