How do i update my website?

Question

here i am very new to updating website.Do I need username and password?If so, where should i enter those?I have got one wesite which is to be updated.I still don't have Idea how to start.Help me plzz

do you mean ftp? if so download filezilla at filezilla.sourceforge.net
type in your ftp username and password and poof move the files you want to the server

do yoou have a web hosting provider such as freewebs?
logon to there website and most should have a filemanager

if its just on your pc open with an text editor such as notepad and edit it

In most cases you'll need to know the site FTP login information and have access to some sort of way to edit the HTML. You could use something like Dreamweaver, Contribute or..err.. frontpage.

If you're using something like MySpace - they probably have an online editor you can use - in that case you probably won't need FTP information, but rather a site login.
