I have a grinding noise when I apply my breaks. I think this is the break shoe but I want to spend as little as possible on it.

Don't worry, with that type of car you won't be going fast enough to warrant any decent breaking force :-)

First off if you have to ask you do not possess the ability to do this

The grinding noise that you refer to could be front or rear brakes but more likely fron pads and discs Cavalier about £150 -£175 done

Rears might be a little less

For the safety of us other road users please do not attempt this repair yourself

Timothy if the noise is that bad you may have scored the disc face
they will need work also on a lathe .Make sure you remove the cap
from the brake fluid resorvoir ,as the seals in the master cylinder will turn bac to front when you push back the caliper piston ,i know from experience it is costly to remedy ,pads are easy to replace other wise.best of luck

the noise is most likely coming from the front which will be your brake pads. very easy to change but if you don't have any knowledge best to just pay to have it done. will cost under £50 if you have a nice garage near you

coffee or tea breaks sorry could not help that (brakes)

it would be your front pads worn down to the metal it is a simple job but if you are a little wary of fixing brakes Qick fit could give you a price and would do it while you wait

If its brake pads they are really easy to fit, and if you go to a motor parts trader you should get them pretty cheap too ?.

Its hard to explain how to fit them on here so if you can find a manual for your car at a boot sale or second hand shop that will guide you through !.

your BRAKES are down to the metal...

you can change tehm yourself, but i suspect you wouldnt know where to start, so go to a garage.. the life you save may be your own.
