I'd like to guage public opinion on what is obviously the worst case of it's type for many years.. is it time we did away with the sickness of our society? Or would you rather stick them in a cell at a cost of £400 a day? Would you consider backing a proposal to Neuter or castrate sick sexual deviants such as Ian Huntley and others?

Unfortunately chemical castration was proved not to stop this deviant behaviour some years ago, and I agree locking up these freaks doesn't work either.

My suggestion would be for them to join the normal(ish) prisoners and take their chances - if they knew what might happen if they get caught they might be less likely to offend (probably not though).

One vote for the death penalty - from a father.

As a father of a 3 year old girl i find it very difficult to read any more about this case. It is sickening, and i've normally got a strong stomach!
In my ideal world the mother / parents would be allowed to choose and carry out whatever she /they feel is best for the killer, be it a bullet to the head, a long painful death, castration, or life imprisonment with the real thugs and criminals who don't take kindly to child killers and rapists.
Unfortunately the legal system doesn't work like that ...yet, so i'll have to settle for bringing back the death penalty for this type of merciless murder without any apparent mitigating reason i.e. Terminal Illness. (thats another contentious issue so i'll stop there)
How must the father be feeling if indeed his own brother is found to be guilty? 1 more vote for the Death Penalty

Yes, I think the death penalty should be brought back for child killers and child rapists. This is the most cowardly and dispicable crime of all as these little ones have no way to fight back and are the most vulnerable members of our society. These monsters have no right to life once they have crossed this line. My opinion is that these people can never be cured and will always pose a threat to children. And it is unfair that we are expected to keep these people in luxury and live with the knowledge that they are still alive and may be released . A child life is precious and should be treated as such.

Something very seriously wrong with an individual like this. Certainly something needs to be done to stop their deviant sexual behaviour so castration seems a possible solution. However, due to the horrific pain he must have caused to his niece I think it should be with a knife without anasthetic rather than chemical castration. "Bring back hanging"? Too good for this violent perverted excuse for a human being although I do believe in the death penalty

For years I believed that getting rid of corporal punishment was the 'right' way for a 'civilised' society to go ..... at that time things like this were a rarerity.......
since then, and especially having worked in the prison service and secure unit environment - my opinion has changed dramatically ......
my experience of the people (both young and older/old) is that this behaviour is not only depraved from which they extract extreme sexual and emotional pleasure ..... it is also something that is 'natural' to them ..... whether these offenders experienced experiences in their past that may/may not have contributed to their actions, the bottom line is that it is 'within' them - and no amount of rehabilitation is going to change that ..... all rehabilitation does is put 'it' off to a time when they lose the self-control they have learnt (if they have at all) in rehabilitation .....
the pressure from social opinion and government laws social workers and probation workers are under, day in day out, means their judgment and skills are bound to be impeded - they're only human like the rest of us, and so, even though they most of the time do a good job (and that's often with lesser offenders) we as a society cannot trust the mitigation and prevention of these crimes in the hands of a handful people .... my opinion is if an individual or individuals are judged and found guilty of these and similar crimes, then there is only one solution available and only one message we as a society want to send out - whether you believe in the bible or not, the ethics contained therein are relevent - you take a life - you give a life......

Yes Bring back the death penalty!!! There is no way that evil man deserves to breath the same air as decent people!!! Castrating would be too good for him, a better idea would be to release him into a place that the public are waiting for him, He should have NO RIGHTS

Yes i think they should,
being 100% sure they did the crime. I think they should bring back the Death Penalty for Child Rapists and Killers.
For all Rapists and Killers. It would save filling our prisons up , plus the money could go to a better cause.
Like education and recreational facilities for the not so well of.

It's funny how you become more right-wing as you get older. I always thought that there was a justification for everyone's actions in life. Now I have a three month old baby, I no longer want to hear it. These people (peodophiles, murderers or rapists) should have the death penalty.
To be honest, and getting to the point, I will pay my taxes to have them banged up and taken away from our society. But preferebly, death.

The only problem with the death penalty in general is that it is absolute. There's no appeal afterwards and certainly no chance of early parole so to properly hand out a death sentence, you'd have to be 100% sure of someone's guilt.

The only way to do that is get a confession, but not one under duress i.e. torture. The unfortunate part about voluntary confessions is that pleading guilty omits the option of the death penalty as a sentence. The people's republic of China usually give LIFE imprisonment to people who confess & plead Guilty and DEATH to anyone who protests thier innocence. You can see the problems occuring in a case like the Guilford 4 where the trial Judge said that he wished he could have given them (The Guilford 4) the death penalty, despite all the accused parties being 100% innocent and victims of both government incompetence and serious judiciary negligence.

I'd like to see sickos like these put to death, but in the instance of one innocent losing thier life simply to satisfy my idea of justice, I have to admit I oppose it.

Certainly castrate or neuter. I believe this does not necessarily stop the urges, forced implants of drugs might work. I actually met Sarah Payne's killer (before) stinking breathe, brown teeth filthy nails but I didn't know what he was, just that he repulsed me. It appeared that the police did know, very quickly, the problem was proving it. I know I would like to violate the human rights of paedophile child murderers , perhaps they could be used as (in)human guinea pigs. I feel the same about anyone who inflicts suffering for their own pleasure.
