that's a great question! i've been an arsenal fan for exactly 20 years, since the early part of 1986-7.

while Ian Wright was lethal, and could score scrappy goals from situations that henry seems to miss from, I think Thierry Henry is the only Arsenal player in that period (a couple of seasons ago) who has a claim to having been the world's best player at any time. limpar was world class in the first half of 1990-1 but his star faded too quickly and he becaome inconsistent. bergkamp was wonderful for us for many many years both as a provider, but he was a scorer of great goals, rather than a great goalscorer.

as a defender, I loved george graham's sides, and players such as seaman, dixon, winterburn, adams, bold and smudge were wonderful in what they contributed to the whole unit of a team, but as an individual and as a team player, henry is top of the tree.

I'm torn between three - all recent.

1. Thierry Henry - by virtue of being the best player in the world.

2. Dennis Bergkamp - definately the most influential and a close second.

3. Ian Wright - for his awesome goalscoring feats when Arsenal were not regarded as one of the top 3 teams in the top flight.

Ask me again in 10 years and I'm sure the answer will be Cesc Fabregas

You can't say 'one best player'. It doesn't mean anything and is unfair. What you can vote for is best player in each part of the team. So here's my choice of the best of the last 20 yrs:

Goalie: 'safe hands'.

Defenders: Tony Adams 'Mr. Arsenal' (nuff said) and Lee Dixon - Lee was a warrior for us.

Midfield: Viera, Rocky and Michael Thomas (for Anfield 1989 alone)

Strikers: Smudger and Wrighty.

No place for King Henry. He's too much of a sulky prima donna for me and not inspirational enough when things aren't going right. Also, doesn't do it enough in the big games when it really matters. He goes missing when the chips are down against the big teams.

Right I'll start off by saying I'm not a Arsenal fan but my Dad and Brother are...so I'll go one better for you...TOP 5 Arsenal Player's of the last 20 years...Tony Adams...Dennis Bergkamp...David Seaman...Tierry Henry...you can choose what order you put those fellas in...but for me there's only one name at the top of the list... it has to be Ian Wright.

without a shadow of doubt Dennis Bergkamp! I saw him play a lot in the glory days and his technical ability is better than anyone I have ever seen. He had great vision for a long or short pass and although not a prolific goal scorer, he scored some of the most memorable goals in history. The one for Holland against Argentina is the stand out goal of them all. Even off the ball his movement and awareness was 2nd to none. Not only Arsenals best player of the past 20 years but the best player to have graced English football?

I'm not an Arsenal fan but used to go to Highbury and have followed their progress over the years...so in my humble opinion, the best player would have to be picked from these world class players:
Denis Bergkamp (for sheer class)
Patrick Viera (for bossing midfield)
Thierry Henry (for currently being one of the best players in the world)
For me its a close call between Denis and Thierry...I can't make my mind up!

The best players of today are generally better than the best players of the past. And the best players of tomorrow will be better than the current bests. It's a function of better training methods, better nutrition, and a deeper understanding of game tactics. Many of the things that Henry can do now are built on what he learned watching older players (or at least things that his coaches learned from watching older players and then imparted to him). Given this, the best player Arsenal has ever had is Henry.

Good question!

In the last 20 years we have been blessed with players like Merson, Adams, Vieira, Bergkamp, Overmars, Henry & even Limpar to name but a few. We also have Cesc at the moment who is turning into a world class player.

But for me the best player in the last 20 years was Wrighty. He was everything that was good about Arsenal, especially in the latter Graham era. & he still refers to Arsenal as 'We' or 'Us'. Legend

A Limpar. Thierry Henry is excellent, but he's just a player that has good games and bad games, only his good games are excellent. Limpar was always lethal, and was more able to play around the pitch. They've had a load of superb players lately, but he is the one that shines out as the best.
